The two lonely souls embark on a new journey together
Scenario
After being released from prison, Lang returns to his hometown in northwest China. As part of a dog patrol sent to collect stray dogs ahead of the 2008 Olympics, he meets a black stray.
Filmmaker Guan Hu succeeds in exploring the relationship between humans and dogs from a Chinese perspective
Eddie Peng [the lead actor] formed such a strong bond with Xin, the dog in the film, that he adopted him after filming wrapped. A beautiful, slow and memorable story about the gritty environment of rural China, with strong performances, direction, script and structure.
With great camerawork, sound design and interesting narrative choices, he brings out the realism, engagement and engagement with the characters naturally
With little dialogue, the sobering approach, pace and style of an arthouse film puts the narrative in a whole new light. The performances from Eddie Peng and the rest of the cast are great and many of the characters, although some characters could have been explored a little better.
After winning the Un Certain Regard award, I can see why
I appreciate the film because it tackles dogs, humanism and society without bias and creates something unique.
