Michael Schur was inspired to create The Man Within after watching the Chilean documentary Agent Mole
Scenario
Charles, a pensioner, gets a new lease of life when he answers an ad for a private detective and becomes a mole in a secret investigation at a nursing home. He says: “The documentary ‘Agent Mole’ is powerful because it makes people feel something amazingly similar regardless of age, ethnicity or gender, and I would describe that feeling very simply as ‘I need to call my mum.’ In our show, we tried to do the same thing with the tone: basically, does our show contribute to this feeling, making us want to call our moms?
Remake of El agente topo (2020)
To be honest, I admit that at first glance I wasn’t sure that the show would somehow interest me, but somehow it attracted me. You won’t be able to look back, as you are so engrossed that you just have to find out who it is!
All the characters are very easy to love, and they are so recognizable in the person in your life
This is also a gentle reminder that we are all here trying to do the same thing, to live and enjoy life, so we must make every effort to get along and, especially, be kind to each other. My favorite quote from the show: “Every great event in your life, looking back, seems like a miracle.” Very poetic, because it finds a response in each of us.
A bittersweet but gentle reminder that Father Time has no favorites
I also admit that it was a little strange to see Ted Denson in this role, especially when you are used to him as the character of “Cheers” “Sam”; but at the very beginning “Charles” touches the strings of your heart, leaving no sad reminders of “Sam”. I hope you will watch it and understand and sympathize with the daily problems that some people face in our society, in our everyday life.
It’s a nice change of pace that doesn’t leave you feeling guilty about watching yet another “crime” show
