At 2 hours and 40 minutes long, Wicked left me feeling exhausted. The voices of the leads were impeccable, the props were gorgeous, but it still felt incomplete. In terms of casting, Cynthia Erivo proved to be a wonderful choice for Elphaba, both in acting and singing. She also earned a lot of sympathy for her character’s plight and the challenges she faced due to her skin color. Ariana Grande held her own as Glinda bringing several quirks and unique comedy to her character, especially with the chemistry between her and Erivo.

For a musical, most of the songs were forgettable, except for the final number “Defying Gravity.” It’s true that not all musicals need to have memorable songs if the plot is strong enough to sustain it (e.g.

The length of the movie should have yielded a better understanding of the characters and a stronger plot. However, it simply presented a songfest, with a weak plot and a lot of choreographed dancing.
